What better way to finish the Summer 2008 season with a match against another club who earlier in the season [very luckily] beat us. Our Keeper back from his vacation just few days ago step up to his position. Though a bit jet lagged and not been in training for a while was given the Man of the Match award. Amazing!
The game was non-stop action for entire duration of the match. Goals were being scored by both teams left, right and centre. Both the teams were on top form. In the end the game ended 6-5 win for us. This means we are now promoted to Division A.
Next week we will be entering the local 7-a-side Tournament. The 7-a-side Autumn 2008 season begins soon. We’ll also be starting our 11-a-side campaign as well!
Sunday 13th July 2008 and it is 11am, it can only mean one thing… its time for our Sunday League 7-A-Side match. Today it was a nice summer’s day and we are faced with the league leaders Slightly Athletic. A win would mean we are equal in points, but we have a superior goal-difference, that will enable us to go straight to the top.
With most of our star players resting or away on holiday, we were facing the leaders with a side that has not played together as a team. But this didn’t stop our new side from winning. In the end, when the referee blew the whistle the score was 3-0 in our favour. OUFC players tried to show no emotions as we are now at the number 1 spot. Congratulation to the side that helped us get back to the top, after being off the top spot for a brief period.
With our first team back in action our full squad, minus our main keeper (he's relaxing in the sun on his vacation, lucky for some), it has been business as usual. In the meantime, we are expecting a postcard from our keeper anytime now.
This Old Skool side is a new reorganised squad with a couple of new players bought in. They had some nice movement and dribbling skills here and there but was not enough against the OUFC side. Sanros our star striker blasted 5 amazing goals. He took our advice of making holes in the net :)
It has been a disappointing day for Oldham United because of the other team scheduled to play did not turn up for the match. However we have managed to play a friendly game with Old Skool. Oldham United proved too strong for Od Skool beating them by a large margin. The good news was OUFC first team goal keeper Jamal Uddin was back playing after an injury he suffered 2 weeks ago.
During the game the keeper did not have to do much but be a spectator thanks to the solid defence that was in front of him. Up front the attack was scoring goals from left, right and center as if their was no tomorrow a solid performance all round.
A truly disappointing result after an excellent performance. Oldham United played some excellent football, especially several individual Ronaldo type skills :) The result is unfair to OU compared to the game that was played, the result does not reflect the game. OU had about 75 percent of ball possession and the game was played on the oppositions half for most of the game. OU deserved to win and win by a huge goal margin by the chances we had and made for ourselves. But the Slightly Athletics goal keeper who made numerous excellent saves was kept busy throughout the game and the rest of the players were defending their hearts out. But their counterattack counted for them on the break. Our main goal keeper is dearly missed who is still recovering from an injury and he maybe fit for next week. We wish him a speedy recovery.
